Arts Friday: Grants for arts groups, WMU student-poet

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs has some money available to non-profit organizations for local projects of "high artistic quality that recognize a community need." Barbara Harkins is grants administrator with the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, which is the re-granting agency for Southwest Michigan. She speaks with WMUK's Lorraine Caron. Western Michigan University graduate student Gary McDowell recently won the Orphic Prize for Poetry from Dream Horse Press. McDowell's first full-length book of poetry American Amen will be published later this year by Dream Horse Press. The WMU grad student already has a short collection, titled They Speak Of Fruit out on Cooper Dillion Books.
