WMU professor to help Iraqis rebuild local governments

A professor from Western Michigan University will spend much of the next year in Iraq. Matthew Mingus, a professor of public affairs and administration, will be part of a "provincial reconstruction team" organized by the State Department. The teams help local Iraqi officials rebuild local governments, schools, and other public institutions.

Mingus will advise Iraqi officials on governmental reform issues. He says the team he'll be a part of will be based in a relatively stable rural area northwest of Baghdad. Mingus will spend much of the next year there after a three-week training program that begins in Washington this week.
