Battle Creek Congressman Mark Schauer is a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee which held a hearing Wednesday on the pipeline break near Marshall that led to the oil spill on the Kalamazoo River. He spoke with WMUK's Gordon Evans Thursday morning.

Schauer says Enbridge CEO Patrick Daniel seems like a nice person, but the Battle Creek Democrat says Daniel's words and his company's actions don't match up.

Schauer says he hopes that Daniel heard loud and clear from witnesses who also testified during the hearing.

Schauer says the law has to be changed and regulatory agencies have to be tougher. He says that companies like Enbridge have to be held accountable.

Schauer says Enbridge has averaged about 20 spills on their pipelines over the last eight years. The company says that's better than the industry standards, so Schauer says something is wrong with the industry.
