Feds pave way for Wayland casino

Federal officials have taken land in Allegan County into trust for a planned Indian casino. The move Friday effectively ends a long-running legal dispute over the project planned near Wayland by the Gun Lake Band of Pottawatomi.

The Interior Department's announcement that it planned to take land near U.S. 131 into trust for the project five years ago set off a series of lawsuits by gambling opponents. But they were rejected by federal courts.

Last week a federal judge in Washington declined to block the Bureau of Indian Affairs from putting the land into trust for the tribe.
