A total of 13 candidates, including all seven incumbents have filed to run for Kalamazoo City Commission. Candidates had until Tuesday afternoon to file for the November ballot. All seven seats on the Kalamazoo City Commission are up for election this fall.
The six challengers for Kalamazoo City Commission are:
Nicholas Wikar, Michael Perrin, Robert Patterson, Andrew Worden, Nicholas Boyd and Antwon Hunter.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell, Vice Mayor Hannah McKinney and commissioners David Anderson, Barbara Hamilton Miller, Don Cooney, Stephanie Bell and Robert Cinabro have all filed for the November ballot. Cinabro was appointed to the commission last year, filling the vacancy left by the death of Terry Kueseske.
In Portage, Mayor Pete Strazdas is running un-opposed for re-election. Four candidates are running for three seats on the City Council. Incumbents Cory Bailes, Patricia Randall and Elizabeth Campbell have filed to run for re-election. Jim Pearson also filed in time to appear on the November ballot.
Among the candidates running for Battle Creek City Commission is former Mayor Mark Behnke. Behnke served for 18 years on the city commission, before deciding not to seek re-election in 2009. Last year he was elected to the Calhoun County Commission.
Behnke told the Battle Creek Enquirer that he was not thinking about having to resign from the County Commission, saying there's no guarantee he'll be elected to the Battle Creek City Commission. Battle Creek School Board Trustee Art McClenney is also running for City Commission in Battle Creek.
