Secretary of State Terry Lynn Land has announced fines against three political fundraising committees, including the State Senate Campaign fund for Battle Creek Democrat Mark Schauer, who has since been elected to Congress. The fines stem from the 2006 election when Schauer's State Senate Committee and another campaign committee exceeded contribution limits to the Senate Democratic Fund.
Land says under an agreement between the Secretary of State and all of the parties, fines totaling $225,000 will be paid for violating Michigan's Campaign Finance Act. The complaint was filed over state Senate races in 2006, Schauer was elected to Congress last year.
