A Southwest Michigan native will return to Kalamazoo this week to discuss his experiences as a journalist. Andy Kroll of Portage is a reporter for Mother Jones Magazine and also writes for other publications.

WMUK’s Gordon Evans spoke with Kroll about a number of issues he has covered and written about, including the Congressional “super committee” which is nearing its deadline to make recommendations for reducing the federal budget deficit. They also discussed the similarities between the Tea Party movement and the various “Occupy” protests around the country. Kroll’s work for Mother Jones includes an investigation into “Foreclosure mills.” His story focused on one firm in Florida that had falsified legal paperwork. Kroll’s story showed how pushing people out of their homes quickly led to larger profits.

Kroll will speak Tuesday at Kalamazoo Valley Community College as part of the Visiting Writer Series. His talks are scheduled for 10:00a.m. and 2:15p.m.
