There will be at least one new member of Congress representing Michigan after this fall’s election. Republican Congressman Thaddeus McCotter announced over the weekend that he is ending his write-in campaign. McCotter had hoped to keep his seat representing suburban Detroit after he failed to turn in enough valid signatures to qualify for the August primary ballot. The state Attorney General’s office is investigating allegations of fraud in connection with the turning in of petition signatures for McCotter’s campaign. One Republican is on the ballot, but Gongwer News Service (subscription required) reports several former office holders are planning or considering running write-in campaigns.
