According to The Detroit News and the Lansing State Journal, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder vetoed three bills: One would have required outside groups who register voters to go through official training, another would have made absentee voters provide a photo ID to receive their ballots, and the last would have required voters to check a box signifying that they are U.S. citizens.
Snyder said the absentee ballot and registration bills could make the voting process confusing for voters and registration volunteers. The governor suggested the U.S. citizenship requirement language be placed on the opening statement of the voter registration application.
