Kalamazoo journalist Chris Killian wants to tell a story leading up to the November election. He wants to view it through the eyes of the voters, specifically those in the so-called swing states that will decide this year’s election. Killian is launching the swing-state project.
Killian plans to travel through 11 states beginning in mid August. He has launched a webpage, currently under construction, to chronicle what he finds. A Facebook page has also been started.
Killian says he has a 1984 VW Vanogon, or VW bus. He will travel to Nevada and then head east stopping in swing-states where polls show a close race.
Killian says he wants to get beyond campaign ads, and gaffes to hear from the voters in these states and share their stories. He wants to interview a cross-section of people in the states that are supposed to decide this year’s election.
Killian says he wants to give voice to people “whose stories are not being heard” in the current political and media environment.
Killian has launched a kick-starter site to raise money to pay for a video camera, gas and food. He plans to use the van as a mobile newsroom and sleep there at night.
Killian says the website will eventually include audio and video clips of stories from people in these various states that will decide the Presidential election.
