Democrats propose tax breaks to bring auto suppliers to Michigan

Democrats at the state Capitol want to use generous tax breaks to lure more automotive suppliers to Michigan. State House Speaker Andy Dillon says about half of the nation's 5,000 auto suppliers are expected to downsize and consolidate in the coming year. Dillon says the incentives will encourage those companies to combine their operations in Michigan.

The initial cost to the state Treasury would be about $250-million. Dillon says the state might be able to borrow against future revenues to cover the cost. The state House could vote on the incentive as soon as Thursday, and send it to the state Senate.
