Mlive Kalamazoo: First case of West Nile confirmed in Kalamazoo County

Kalamazoo County has its first confirmed case of West Nile Virus this season. Mlive/Kalamazoo Gazette reports that Kalamazoo County’s Health and Community Services Department confirmed the first case of West Nile on Thursday. The virus is transmitted by mosquitos. State officials say they are concerned about a possible epidemic of West Nile virus in Michigan. The Detroit Free Press reports that an 87 year old woman from the Grand Rapids area is the fifth person confirmed to have died this season in Michigan because of West Nile Virus.
