Kalamazoo’s City Attorney is proposing a new ordinance that reduces the penalties for small amounts of marijuana. Mlive/Kalamazoo Gazette reports that City Attorney Clyde Robinson wants City Commissioners to pass an ordinance that would make possession of small amounts of marijuana enforceable by an appearance ticket instead of an arrest. It would also reduce the fines paid or jail time served by offenders. Robinson says the change would free up public safety officers for other matters. The ordinance will come up for a first reading during Monday night’s Kalamazoo City Commission meeting.
