Federal officials say more clean-up is needed to remove oil from the Kalamazoo River. Recovery efforts have already collected more than a million gallons of oil dumped into the river when a pipeline ruptured in July 2010. But the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says the pipeline’s owner must to even more. It wants Enbridge Energy to collect submerged oil upstream of the Ceresco and Battle Creek dams in Calhoun County and another area upstream of Morrow Lake in Kalamazoo County.
The agency says without the extra work that oil could come to the surface and float further downstream. Enbridge has a month to respond to the EPA order.
