A United Way-backed literacy program is expanding in Battle Creek. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that the program which started at one school is now being used in a second elementary building. United Way officials say a similar program is in the works for Galesburg-Augusta Schools and they are in talks with Kalamazoo Public Schools. The literacy program includes extra training for teachers, new books for libraries and volunteers spending time listening to children read.
