A new plant in West Michigan that will make high-tech batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles is expected to hire about 500 workers. The $220-million project in Holland planned by Johnson Controls was among four auto battery manufacturing projects that got state tax credits Tuesday. Governor Granholm announced 14 projects she says will create more than 7,700 jobs and generate $2-billion in investment. About 6,600 of the new jobs will be at the four new battery plants.
