City could drop question about prior criminal activity on job applications

The City of Kalamazoo may soon move to eliminate the question on its job applications that asks whether an applicant has ever been convicted of a felony. More than a half-dozen people Monday night urged commissioners to go ahead with the change, saying that former prisoners have paid their debt to society. Supporters the city can still run background checks, and they say such a move could help promote similar policies by private-sector employers.
