Granholm signs legislation that could allow expansion of Western Michigan University's BTR Park

Governor Granholm has signed legislation that lifts land-use restrictions on property known as the Colony Farm Orchard in Kalamazoo. Western Michigan University officials want to use the property to expand its Business Technology and Research Park near Parkview Avenue and U.S. 131. They say that will help bring jobs to Southwest Michigan. Preservation groups have argued against the expansion, saying it will eliminate valuable open space. TheyAC/AEURAtmre also concerned about the nearby Asylum Lake Preserve.
