$15-million in grants to redevelop abandoned property in Kalamazoo

$15-million in federal money will help efforts to rehabilitate abandoned property in Kalamazoo. The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced a total of $223-million in grants Thursday for 12 Michigan communities. About $15-million will go to the city of Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo County Land Bank.

Six core neighborhoods in the city are being targeted through the program. The efforts focus on rehabilitating abandoned, foreclosed and vacant property into quality housing.
