Republican nominee for governor Rick Snyder has chosen a young, conservative lawmaker from mid-Michigan to be his running mate on the November ballot. Sources inside the campaign have confirmed to the Michigan Public Radio Network that state Representative Brian Calley is Snyder's choice.

Calley is from Portland, his state House district includes Barry County. He also recently won a hard-fought primary for a state Senate seat. Snyder has never held office, he focused his GOP primary campaign instead on his background as a CEO and venture capitalist.

Snyder's expected to formally announce his pick at a town hall meeting Wednesday night in Grand Rapids. The choice will have to be ratified by delegates to the state Republican convention this coming weekend in East Lansing.
