Enbridge pipeline near Chicago springs oil leak

Another Enbridge Energy oil pipeline in the Midwest has sprung a leak. Officials in Romeoville, Illinois, southwest of Chicago, discovered oil coming to the surface from the underground line Thursday, September 9.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Canadian company has shutdown the pipeline. It says the Environmental Protection Agency doesn't know yet how big the leak was. The paper says the leak was contained before any of the oil got into the DuPage River nearby.

Another Enbridge pipeline that ruptured in July sent up to a million gallons of crude oil into the Kalamazoo River in Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties. A congressional committee plans to hold a hearing on that disaster in Washington next week.
