WMU speaker says college tuition should be free

Doing away with tuition and fees at all of the nation's public colleges and universities would help both students and the economy. That's the view of University of Pennsylvania political scientist Adolph Reed. He says the federal government can afford to cover those costs.

Reed says declining state appropriations have forced public colleges and universities to rely increasingly on private sources of money. Reed says that threatens the quality and integrity of higher education. Reed speaks Monday at Western Michigan University as part of the third annual Social Justice Lecture Series. His presentation starts at 7 p.m. in the Fetzer Center.
