MIRS: Poll shows Bolger in tight race to keep state House seat

A new poll shows House Speaker Jase Bolger in a tight race to keep his state House seat representing parts of Kalamazoo and Calhoun County. The MIRS News Service (subscription required) reports that Bolger’s lead over Democrat Bill Farmer is only three points, within the survey’s margin of error. Mlive/Kalamazoo Gazette coverage here.

Bolger was involved in a scandal where a “fake Democratic candidate” was recruited to run in a Grand Rapids area district. That was designed to make it easier for Representative Roy Schmidt to hold that seat after switching from the Democratic to Republican Party. Neither man has faced criminal charges in connection with the incident.

Update: Mlive/Kalamazoo quotes Bolger's spokesman Ari Adler questioning the poll. Adler says the poll was conducted by a firm that normally does work for Democratic candidates. The firm in questoin is owned by Mark Grebner, a Democrat who serves on the Ingham County Board of Commisionsers.
