Gongwer: Democrats, organized labor weigh recall options

The Michigan Democratic Party and Organized labor are weighing options to respond to the “right to work” law approved this week by the Legislature. The Gongwer News Service (subscription required) reports that taking out petitions to recall lawmakers is one possibility. At least in the short term, any recall efforts would focus on the state Senate, state law gives elected officials a six month grace period after elections, meaning any recalls against House members would have to wait until July. Gongwer notes the risk for Democrats is that recall elections will be costly and isn’t likely to change anything unless the party gets control of both the House and Senate.

Bloomberg has a look at the possiblity of recalls in Michigan, but note that the recall effort against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was not successful.

The Week Magazine says it would be a steep hill to recall Governor Snyder.
