Goverments receive funds from New Buffalo casino

Representatives from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo will present a check Tuesday to a group of officials representing governmental entities in the Southwest corner of Michigan.

New Buffalo Township Supervisor Rose Dudiak says most of the $6.2-million will reimburse the municipalities for money they had to spend on additional fire, police and other services required by the casino.

The remaining funds will be divided up by an Area Revenue Sharing Board made up of area school districts, townships and cities. The payout is just the first of what will be an annual dividend representing about 2% of the casino's yearly profits.
