Expert on historic preservation speaks in Kalamazoo Tuesday night

Supporters of historic preservation say restoring old buildings should be part of a "sustainable" future. The Kalamazoo Historic Preservation Commission, Friends of Western Michigan University's East Campus, and several other groups, will host an expert on historical preservation and green building Tuesday night. Mike Jackson is the Chief Architect with the Illinois' Historic Preservation Agency. He says restoring old buildings can be done with new techniques that save energy while preserving the past.

Jackson's presentation is called "Reduce plus Reuse equals Green Preservation." Jackson's lecture starts Tuesday evening at 7:30 in First United Methodist Church in downtown Kalamazoo. It follows a roundtable discussion at Charlie Foster's restaurant on Water Street at 5:30. Both events are free and open to the public.
