More tough budget decisions expected in Kalamazoo
Kalamazoo City Manager Ken Collard says 2010 is shaping up to be another rough year for the city, financially speaking. Collard is suggesting city commissioners begin planning for it now. Part of that process will involve discussions over what the city's real core services are.
Collard is recommending cuts of as much as $3.5-million from the city's general fund expenditures. And he's recommending they cut this year's budget rather than wait for next year. Commissioners voted last night to allow the City Manager to explore new cuts, though it will take another vote to do any actual cutting.
