Conservation groups reach agreemend to buy land in Saugatuck, money still needed

Two preservation groups have announced plans to buy 170 acres of land near Saugatuck's Oval Beach City Park. The Land Conservancy of West Michigan and the Nature Conservancy have been trying to prevent development of the property. They announced Monday that they have reached an agreement to buy the land for $20-million.

But the deal is contingent on securing the money. The groups are hoping for a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. The trust fund's board gave preliminary approval to the grant in February. A fund raising campaign is also planned for later this year.
